Where's Lightfoot? At Least 5 People Killed, 61 Wounded in Chicago Weekend Shootings

We constantly hear the left talk about “the new normal” when it comes to pretty much anything that they believe is in the best interests of others without consulting anyone. “The new normal” is something pushed on all of us that very few people are accepting as their reality. We’re told about “the new normal” because the sooner we accept what the left is pushing, the sooner they can move on to the next progressive narrative in their agenda.

How about the people being shot in Chicago? Last weekend, at least five people were killed and another 59 were wounded. This past weekend, at least five people were murdered and another 61 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area. That’s incredibly, yet sadly consistent.

Are numbers like the ones reported above part of “the new normal?”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot seems to be busy sheltering in her home, hypocritically guarded by Chicago police officers while others in her city are dying on a daily basis in part due to her inaction.

These are the names of those were killed over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Martin Coleman, 27

Esteban Campos Jr., 43

Devon Nelson, 31

Antione Rose, 33

Ronald Boyd, 26

Of those wounded in weekend shootings, three of the victims were reportedly minors.

As for the year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims, Chicago is now up to at least 206 people dead and 1,111 people wounded. For the third week in a row, the Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, reported that 2,500 have been victims of shootings, as of August 17. That is 760 more than the same point in 2019, and the second highest since 2012.

It’s only getting worse, but as long as Lightfoot is safely barricaded in her home all is well. Well, not all is well. One only needs to look at any of the numbers above to know that.

It’s a sad state of affairs when the mayor is too busy blaming all of the problems the city she’s supposed to be in charge of has on others instead of acknowledging her own shortcomings as a leader. The belief that Lightfoot is in over her head is one that’s of the growing variety.
