You would think that, at some point, the shootings in Chicago would slow down during the blisteringly hot dog days of summer. However, it only seems as though that the heat has brought some kind of consistency to the violence that is plaguing the "city of the big shoulders."

It was yet another violent weekend in Chicago, as at least 48 people were shot across the Chicagoland area, at least eight of which died as a result of their wounds.

Here's an example of this past weekend's violence, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

About 8:20 p.m. [Saturday], Curtis Davis was sitting in a vehicle in the 4000 block of West Grenshaw Street when he was shot in the back of the head, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A few hours earlier, a man was discovered fatally wounded in a home in Park Manor on the South Side.

Officers found Eric Hamilton Jr., 29, inside the home about 2:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Wabash Avenue with a gunshot wound to his forehead, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unfortunate that we even have to keep a tally, but this past weekend's shootings brings the total number of weekend shootings since Memorial Day weekend to over 400 victims.

An astounding 444 people have been shot, on weekends only, in the city of Chicago since Memorial Day weekend, with at least 55 dying from their wounds. Sadly, this past weekend's shootings have raised the mortality rate of weekend gunshot victims in Chicago to 12.4 percent, up from 11.8 percent after last weekend's activities.

The officers of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) try hard every single day to do something about the violence, while city politicians and CPD higher-ups play the blame game about wanting to curb the violence. But, while billionaire governor J.B. Pritzker is busy focusing on how he wants to gender to be represented in public restrooms, people in the most populous area in his state are dying.
