The Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) crossed the rubicon last night when they raided former President Donald Trump’s home in Florida on Monday, and even Trump’s erstwhile rivals are taking notice.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) released a video on his Twitter account Monday night, during which he compared the Biden Justice Department’s raid of its top political opponent to the actions of authoritarian Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega.

“This is what happens in places like Nicaragua,” Rubio explained, “where, last year, every single person who ran against Daniel Ortega for President, every single person who put their name on the ballot, was arrested and is still in jail.”

“You can try and diminish it, but that’s exactly what happened tonight,” the Florida senator added.

Rubio also attacked the Biden DOJ for targeting Trump “over a documents dispute — a documents dispute, by the way, that’s not new to this administration.”

“Multiple administrations have had disputes [with] the archival office over what is a presidential record and what isn’t,” he elaborated.

The true purpose of the FBI’s raid, Rubio argued, was “to try and politically harm and intimidate their political opponents.” He emphasized that the decision creates a precedent for political persecution in the U.S. that will not necessarily be limited to Trump.

The historic FBI raid has been roundly condemned by Republican politicians, and even Democrats, like disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, have called the decision into question.

The controversial move has been regarded by many as an unprecedented step toward despotism in the United States, though it’s still unclear whether charges against Trump will materialize as a result.
