“The View” often has a reputation for twisting news stories based on near-hatred for members of the right. During Wednesday’s episode of the show, Whoopi Goldberg and her co-stars gave us another reason to look for objectivity elsewhere.

The rant against Republicans began with a clip from CNN’s interview with Ron DeSantis.

“If Jack Smith has evidence of criminality,” interviewer Jake Tapper asked, “should Donald Trump be held accountable?”

“So, here’s the problem–this country is going down the road of criminalizing political differences,” claimed DeSantis, before the clip skipped to another part of his answer. “I don’t think it serves us good to have a presidential election focused on what happened four years ago in January. So I want to focus on looking forward. I don’t want to look back.”

The clip ended, and the camera focused on Goldberg’s bewildered face as the audience laughed.

“It’s just nothing! He says nothing!” co-host Joy Behar insisted, to the tune of another wave of laughter.

“I think it’s sort of disconcerting here that he is a lawyer, and he is, in effect, saying that the law does not apply equally to everyone,” Sunny Hostin said. “Taking national security documents is not a difference of opinion. Using money to bribe a mistress is not a difference of opinion. Starting an insurrection and trying to usurp our very democracy is not a political difference, and I found his answer to be deeply unserious.”

As if the rest of the bickering and a subsequent clip of Donald Trump on Fox News wasn’t enough, Goldberg landed the decisive insult against the governor.

“What’s interesting about these people you talked about not even saying or admitting that anything wrong was done, it’s because they want to do the same thing. DeSantis wants the same kind of country. I believe that he also wants to also be a dictator. I believe many of these folks who are defending this think this is an interesting prospect. I have to tell you, I never thought in my lifetime that I would see this country come as close to dictatorship as I’ve seen, ever.”

Although these ladies are far more articulate than our current president and vice president, accusing someone of Hitler-esque ambitions while failing to complete adequate research on the conservative perspective leads more to a rant session than a civil discussion. We must stand firm in the truth in love, lest we accidentally make our own version of “The View.”
