The famous “Democratic” Socialist, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), shocked both the left and the right alike with a recent TikTok video criticizing government over-regulation!

AOC's target was sunscreen regulations by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

She posted the video to her Twitter, where she said “our regulations aren’t necessarily making our sunscreens better or safer.”

In the video, AOC interviewed esthetician Charlotte Palermino about how little sunscreen options there are in the United States.

"U.S. sunscreen regulations are not necessarily making us more safe," Palermino said.

In the United States, even though sunscreen is often bought in cosmetic aisles and treated as such a product, the FDA has power to regulate it due to the purpose of sunscreen– to prevent sunburns and the likelihood of developing skin-cancer.

Because of this, U.S. sunscreen options are very limited and AOC was pretty upset about this, claiming that Europe and the rest of the world makes far better sunscreen options than the U.S.

AOC said the FDA requires more testing and clinical trials, but that the system has too many negative bureaucratic and cost effects that make options more limited.

She evens encourages Americans to call their congressional representatives, especially if they are on the Energy and Commerce committee, to bring attention to the issue.

Interestingly enough, free-market advocates are defending AOC’s concerns, while the far-left socialists are crying because their so-called democratic socialist, isn’t left-wing enough.

Reason magazine wrote that “on this one issue, the democratic socialist sounds a lot like a libertarian.”

“AOC is calling out a very real problem,” writes Robby Soave for Reason. “Sunscreen is regulated like a drug, which means the product is subject to byzantine FDA regulations that have largely thwarted innovation in the category for the last 20 years.”

However, a blog published on Socialist Alternative, reads that AOC has an “embarrassing association” with the socialist left and that her calls to deregulate the industry go against the socialism she claims to believe in.

The blog also criticizes her willingness to partner with Charlotte Palermino because she is a popular beautician who has made $69 million from selling beauty serums.
