White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended President Trump’s latest tweets insulting MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” cohost Mika Brzezinksi, saying the American people “knew what they were getting when they voted” for him.

“I don’t think you can expect someone to be personally attacked day after day, minute by minute, and sit back,” she said. “Look, the American people elected for a fighter… They knew what they were getting when they voted for Donald Trump and he won overwhelmingly.”

Sanders added that Trump only defends himself, or “fights fire with fire.”

President Trump tweeted Thursday morning as MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” was drawing to a close, calling Brzezinski “Crazy Mika” and alleging she came to his resort in Mar-a-Lago with her cohost Joe Scarborough “bleeding badly from a face-lift.”

Brzezinksi responded with a picture with the words, “made for little hands,” criticizing Trump’s manhood.

Trump has been criticized by members of his own party for the tweets, including 2016 Republican presidential candidate Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who tweeted, “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office…”

CNN is covering the tweets as yet another attack on women.
