“President Obama has now commuted the sentences of 248 individuals — more than the last six presidents combined,” the White House declared today.

Pres. Obama today commuted the sentences of 61 individuals convicted of drug dealing (intent to distribute, trafficking) – including 52 cocaine dealers

Despite Pres. Obama’s gun control efforts, 12 of the commuted sentences included convictions on firearms charges.

An announcement on the White House website boasts that Pres. Obama has now commuted more sentences than the last six presidents combined:

“Today, the President announced 61 new grants of commutation to individuals serving years in prison under outdated and unduly harsh sentencing laws. More than one-third of them were serving life sentences. To date, the President has now commuted the sentences of 248 individuals – more than the previous six Presidents combined. And, in total, he has commuted 92 life sentences.”

That’s four times as many commuted sentences as his closest rival – Bill Clinton, who commuted 61 sentences.
