White House spokesman Josh Earnest slammed Republicans of the House Select Committee on Benghazi during a press briefing on Tuesday, calling the findings of their final report “politically motivated fantasies.”

Earnest argued that the report was simply a taxpayer funded effort to “tear down” Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers and nothing more.

“This was a $7 million dollar effort funded by taxpayers… to tear down Secretary Clinton’s poll numbers,” said the press secretary. “That was their goal. It remains to see if that was accomplished.”

He did not refute the specific findings of the report, but amounted the document as a whole to “political fantasizing.”

“The variety of conspiracy theories that have been flowering on the Republican side of the aisle are politically motivated fantasies,” Earnest went on. “And it’s unfortunate that the death of four Americans would be subject to that kind of political fantasizing, but that is the state of the Republican Party these days.”

Republicans of the House Select Committee on Benghazi released their final report on Tuesday on the events surrounding the 2012 Libya terrorist attacks that killed four Americans including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Among other shocking findings, the 800-page-long report reveals that nearly eight hours after the attacks began, no military assistance was en route to Libya.

Democrats on the committee issued their own report on Monday hoping to “put to rest the conspiracy theories about Benghazi once and for all.”

The Democrats argue that the Defense Department could not have done anything differently on the night of the attacks that would have saved the lives of the four Americans killed, and that Clinton was in no way responsible because she never personally denied requests for additional security.
