In the ever-rapid race for Democrats to come up with more things to give away for votes, Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar is now promising “a home for everyone,” courtesy of the American taxpayer.
Because America’s not already $23 trillion in debt or anything.
Speaking Thursday at a congressional town hall for women of color, Omar purported that the only way to solve the homeless crisis is for the government to guarantee “homes for all.”
“It is a moral stain on our country that we have half a million or more people facing homelessness," the Minnesota Democrat lamented. "In few weeks, we are going to introduce our Homes For All legislation, which will, hopefully, guarantee a home for everyone."
To this end, she explained, the federal government would need to invest "in the creation of millions of homes."

Now this would be the same government, mind you, that has already invested in apartments for the homeless in Los Angeles, which is ostensibly a far smaller project than trying to provide them for the entire country. And so far, that project has fallen flat on its big stupid government face.
Three years after L.A. residents voted to approve a $1.2 billion, 10-year construction budget to build apartments for the homeless, the city has yet to complete the first apartment...
...and L.A. still has an overwhelming homeless crisis.
If that weren't bad enough, it turns out that -- shockingly -- the apartments built by the government may actually end up costing more than those built by the private sector. I know, right?!
“At an average cost of $531,373 per unit – with many apartments costing more than $600,000 each – building costs of many of the homeless units will exceed the median sale price of a market-rate condominium. In the city of Los Angeles, the median price for a condo is $546,000, and a single-family home in Los Angeles County has a median price of $627,690,” USA Today reports.
But yes, Ilhan. We should absolutely mandate that the government build homes for everyone at total cost to the American taxpayer, as this is sure to efficiently and expediently solve everyone's problems and not simultaneously drive us all even further into the poor house.
And after that, we can legislate that lollipops and gumdrops fall from the sky. Which, frankly, might actually be more realistic.
