“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.”

So George Orwell wrote in 1984 – and so the United Nations has declared as its divine calling in declaring that global warming has officially transitioned to "the era of global boiling."

“And for scientists, it is unequivocal–humans are to blame,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared last week. “All this is entirely consistent with predictions and repeated warnings. The only surprise is the speed of the change. Climate change is here, it is terrifying, and it is just the beginning. The era of global warming has ended–the era of global boiling has arrived.”

As serious and tragic as Guterres’ composure appeared at the podium, the left is desperate for people to take their fear mongering to heart. They know people won’t relinquish their forms of transportation, their homes, their individuality, and their critical thinking to government control if the situation were approached with facts and logic.

For a long time, they tried using more innocuous vocabulary like “global warming” – but then it sounded like the world was turning into a cozy sauna. When the left made the transition to “climate change,” people rolled their eyes at the term’s self-evident nature. Climate changes every day – what’s so scary about that?

“Global boiling” is the progressive environmentalists’ leap into bolder, more imminently frightening language. Gone are the days when climate terminology evoked images of a spa at the Four Seasons. The risk of the whole world boiling alive leaves us no time to relax, breathe, or think. How dare we jump for joy at the sight of the sun stepping out from behind a rain cloud when “[t]he air is unbreathable, the heat is unbearable, and the level of fossil fuel profits and climate inaction is unacceptable”?

“Doesn’t anyone remember the Chicken Little story?” Twitter user Carol Doran wrote in response. “That’s what all this fear mongering reminds me of.”
