Watch: Virginia Democrats Follow NY – Want Abortions Until Birth

Eric Scheiner | January 30, 2019

Virginia Democrats are proposing a measure that would repeal restrictions on abortion, allowing terminations up until the moment of birth.

In a sad attempt to follow in the footsteps of the new baby killing laws in New York, Democrats are trying to achieve a similar goal in other states.

In Virginia it’s called the Repeal Life Act – oops, sorry - The Repeal Act. It was presented in a subcommittee hearing this week by Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran. Tran informed committee members that the measure would allow abortion up to 40 weeks, and allow for the killing of the baby even while the mother is dilating.

Watch video of Tran answering questions about  the bill below:

The bill would remove ultrasound requirements, remove Virginia’s 24-hour waiting period, allow for late-term abortion, and reduces requirements for clinic health and safety standards.

From the bill’s summary:

The bill eliminates all the procedures and processes, including the performance of an ultrasound, required to effect a woman's informed written consent to the performance of an abortion; however, the bill does not change the requirement that a woman's informed written consent be first obtained. The bill eliminates the requirement that two other physicians certify that a third trimester abortion is necessary to prevent the woman's death or impairment of her mental or physical health, as well as the need to find that any such impairment to the woman's health would be substantial and irremediable. The bill also removes language classifying facilities that perform five or more first-trimester abortions per month as hospitals for the purpose of complying with regulations establishing minimum standards for hospitals.
