President Trump hosted Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite at the White House on Tuesday.

During a joint press conference with the leaders, Trump told Latvian President Vējonis to call on “a Baltic reporter,” not someone in the "fake news" U.S. press.

"You can pick a reporter. A Baltic reporter, ideally," Trump told Vējonis. “Real news, not fake news.”

Vējonis smiled awkwardly and looked around the room.

"Mr. President, pick a reporter from the Baltics," Trump insisted.

Vējonis ended up picking a reporter from Latvia.

Trump met with the three Baltic leaders on Tuesday to discuss defense and security policy and to congratulate them on 100 years of independence from the former Soviet Union.

According to Fox News, Russia was “a top point of discussion.”

The White House issued a press release Tuesday evening outlining what the U.S. has agreed to do to “enhance the defense and security of our Baltic NATO allies,” including providing "nearly $100 million for procurement of large-caliber ammunition” and "over $70 million in training and equipping programs ... to build the capacity of the national military or national-level security forces of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.”

The Trump administration, in honor of the countries’ 100th anniversaries of independence, also plans to accept 100 Baltic youth in 2018 through U.S.-sponsored exchange programs.
