WATCH: Sen. Murray (D-WA) Blocks Bill That Would Prevent Infanticide

12.9k views

Monday evening Senator Ben Sasse (R., Neb.) was calling for unanimous consent on his Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, when Democratic Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) stood up and objected to the bill to prevent it from passing.

The measure, aimed at preventing infanticide, offered protections for babies born alive after attempted abortion procedures.

Murray took to the floor and claimed the legislation is unnecessary because there are already laws protecting infants.

Sasse disagreed and replied to Murray.

“To the Senator from Washington, the bill that we are talking about before this body tonight, is because New York and Virginia – New York already, and Virginia in debate – are having a conversation about removing exactly these protections, Sasse said. “This debate is about infanticide and infanticide only and this is a sad day for this body.”

Murray didn’t respond  - as she had already left the Senate after making her objection in order to block the bill.
