WATCH: Democratic Illinois Lawmaker Calls For the Death Of Her GOP Colleague's Family On the State House Floor

A Democratic state lawmaker from Illinois lost her mind this week and actually called for the death of her Republican colleague and his family in a crazy tirade from the state House floor. And now, she's being asked to resign for it.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit blew her lid during a floor debate in the Illinois House over whether to overturn Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto of a bill that would increase the cap the state pays in civil litigation cases from $100,000 to $2 million, a measure the paper explains was “meant to help the families of those affected by a deadly Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at the Illinois Veterans Home in Downstate Quincy.” The outbreak reportedly killed 13 people and affected 12 more, resulting in lawsuits from a dozen families.

Rep. Peter Breen, the outgoing House floor leader and a Republican, reportedly commented that lawmakers had no way of knowing how much the bill was actually going to end up costing taxpayers in the long run, or how much would end in waste or abuse.

“All we know is it’s going to cost us a lot. And yes, we know the personal injury lawyers are going to make out like bandits, which they tend to do anytime they come to the General Assembly,” Breen said.

This apparently sent Kifowit, a veteran, into absolute hysterics.

“To the representative from Lombard, I would like to make him a broth of Legionella and pump it into the water system of his loved one so that they can be infected, they can be mistreated, they can sit and suffer by getting aspirin instead of being properly treated and ultimately die,” Kifowit said.

The Democratic lawmaker eventually walked back her words -- well, only kinda – saying she was clearly trying to get Breen to imagine if it were his family who’d been affected by the deadly disease.

“For the fact of it being misrepresented, I’m going to say that what was said earlier is a mischaracterization of what my words were,” Kifowit said on the House floor. “And for that, for it being misinterpreted, I will apologize. But I will not apologize for what happened to those families. And I will clearly say to all of us, imagine if it was your family.”

Kifowit later tweeted that her words had been “twisted and misrepresented," claiming she “never stated anything to wish his family death."

Then again, I’m not entirely sure how one can misinterpret the statement, “I’d like to poison you and your kids because I disagree with you.”
