Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kansas) went after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a congressional committee hearing Thursday, demanding to know why she didn’t respond to more than 600 requests from State Department officials for additional security at the Benghazi-based consulate in Libya in 2012. According to government records, Pompeo added, the requests for ramped-up security were streaming in for months before four Americans were killed in an attack on the consulate on Sept. 11 -- none of which ever made it to Clinton’s desk, she claims.

Rep. Pompeo: “That’s over 600 requests. You’ve testified here this morning that you’ve had none of those reached your desk. Is that correct?”

Clinton: “That’s correct.”

Pompeo then asked why, as hundreds of official requests for extra security were being ignored, Clinton received and responded to about 150 emails with information on Libya that she’d been sent by Sidney Blumenthal, a longtime personal friend and unofficial advisor while Clinton was secretary of state.
