It’s funny how sometimes a particularly good rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” gives you goosebumps. At least it does for me. And if that rendition is done by someone who’s not trying to sell a new album — you know, someone you can tell is singing or playing the song with passion — it only enhances the experience.

Monday evening the National Hockey League (NHL) game between the visiting Dallas Stars and the hosting New York Rangers delivered one of the most adorable and well done renditions of the national anthem.

Violin is one of the most emotion conveying instruments in the music world, and last night 10-year-old Zoe Nguyen dazzled the crowd at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden.

Here’s Nguyen’s anthem performance:

It wasn’t too flashy, and it harkened back to a time when simplicity was key. I have watched literally hundreds, if not thousands, of renditions of the U.S. anthem, and the subdued nature of this performance brought a smile to my face and a chill to my bones.

Nguyen’s performance was a part of MSG’s Garden of Dreams week in conjunction with the Garden of Dreams Foundation. The foundation works to “positively impact the lives of children facing obstacles.” The organization works with “30 local partner organizations” all benefiting children.

Great job, Zoe! We hope to see you playing the song we hold so dear again!
