Washington Post Paints Hezbollah As Misunderstood Freedom Fighters

The Washington Post bureau chief for Beirut thought it'd be a good idea to travel through Lebanon alongside a member of the infamous terrorist group Hezbollah.

Liz Sly, a reporter who covers Middle Eastern news for the Washington Post, decided to pen what can only be described as a propaganda piece for the well-known terrorist group, in which she voices the notion that it is Hezbollah, and not the United States, who is truly fighting terrorism. Here's a snippet from WaPo's piece:

"The current American president is ignorant of the region,” said Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif, speaking to reporters in a cave until recently occupied by Nusra. “We are the force that fights terrorism while the United States continues to support terrorism in many forms."

Hezbollah, a terrorist group with ties to the regime in Iran, feels qualified to make this statement because of its battles against Jabhat al-Nusra, an Al-Queda affiliate:

"The comment coincided with the conclusion of a two-week offensive by Hezbollah in the Arsal area that drove out scores of al-Qaeda-affiliated fighters belonging to the group known as Jabhat al-Nusra, as well as well as several hundred former Free Syrian Army rebels — whose allies until recently had received support from the United States."

Hezbollah is on the U.S. State Department's designated terror watchlist (and has been since 1997), and was re-designated a terror group in 2013 thanks to their destabilization activities in Syria.

According to the Council on Foreign Relations, the State Department revealed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, was leading Hezbollah's activities in Syria.

The fact that a Washington Post reporter penned and promoted the notion that Hezbollah, who has propped up the Assad regime, acted as a proxy for Iran in Israel and Iraq as well as in Syria, is now claiming to be fighting terrorism is absolutely ludicrous. This is propaganda, pure and simple, and it's shameful that a terrorist group is being treated like misunderstood freedom fighters by a national U.S. media outlet.

Though, according to Hezbollah, it's the United States that's really at fault when it comes to global terrorism:

“We are the ones defeating terrorism, The Americans and their allies are the ones who are supporting terrorism, and they are the last ones who should be criticizing Hezbollah.”
