With the temperatures heating up and the police more vilified than ever, expect the criminals in places like Chicago to look like they’re trying to set high scores when it comes to shooting people. If this past weekend is any indication, we’re in for a long summer.

At least five people were killed and another 40 were wounded in weekend shootings across the Chicagoland area. That total makes the previous weekend’s numbers look like amateur hour, as at least four people were murdered and another 21 were wounded in that weekend’s shootings.

Here are the names and ages of those who lost their lives over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Kamaree Burnett, 17

Julius Barnes, 34

Benjamin Dawkins, 27

Unidentified Male, 21

Travis Willis, 37

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 82 people have been murdered and another 414 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, is reporting that — as of April 26 — 956 people have been shot this year. That number is 217 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
