Controversial public opinion, especially conservative opinion, doesn’t typically lend itself to being considered “advertiser friendly” in the eyes of major brands as evidenced by the USAA’s departure from Fox News’ primetime show, “Hannity.”

According to the Washington Post:

But the company, which caters to members of the U.S. military and their families, says the move had nothing to do with pressure on Hannity’s advertisers. Some groups have called for an advertiser boycott after Hannity’s focus on a discredited story involving a murdered Democratic National Committee employee. On Wednesday, Hannity he would no longer talk about the story of murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich.

USAA said Wednesday it has a policy not to advertise on any opinion-based programing. Except, of course, when it does -- like on MSNBC's "Hardball."

USAA probably didn’t expect the a backlash from so many of its members, all of which are current or former members of the military and their families.

Here is just some of the responses USAA has received on its own website after announcing their decision to pull their advertising from the Sean Hannity's show:

Well, that escalated quickly. So quickly, in fact, that the internet thread housing the backlash goes on for 98 pages.

It’s no wonder that members of our military are upset. USAA pulled its advertising money out of one of the few shows in the media that actively supports those who defend USAA’s right to exist.
