A Christian high school in Vermont that forfeited a girls' basketball game because its opponent had a transgender female (dude) on the roster found out on Monday it would be banned from all future playoff tournaments.
In late February, Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) in White River Junction, VT opted out of a playoff tournament game against Long Trail School (LTS) because LTS has a biological male on its team.
“We believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players,” MVCS school chief Vicky Fogg said. “Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general.”
Of course, all of this is valid and fair in the court of reason and common sense. But in the eyes of the Vermont Principals Association (VPA), it was deemed a heinous crime.
As a result, VPA has banned MVCS from participating not just in the playoffs for girls basketball, but in every sport for the indefinite future.
“The VPA again reiterates its ongoing support of transgender student-athletes as not only a part of building an inclusive community for each student to grow and thrive, but also as a clear expectation by Vermont state law(s) in the Agency of Education Best Practices, and in VPA Policy regarding transgender student athletes,” the association said in a statement.
MVCS has not yet released a comment regarding the VPA’s decision, but I have a few.
MVCS's well-founded stand against the transgender ideology was driven by common sense-science and biology, and informed by religious convictions. It spoke the truth about the dangers of allowing men to compete in women’s sports and made the right decision for the school and its players.
However, we live in an age where “truth” is constantly redefined by agenda-driven individuals who vehemently hate those who speak capital T-Truth. The VPA retaliated against MVCS by dishing out a punishment that was highly uncalled for and that could cripple the athletic future of a school that is small to begin with.
MVCS should still be proud of the stance it took; Truth desperately needs to be spoken in this age, whatever the cost may be. However, the VPA should be ashamed of its actions and immediately reconsider what it's done.
