UPDATE: 4 Dead Including Gunman in San Francisco UPS Shooting

UPDATE 4:45 P.M. EST: 

At least four people were killed and two injured in the shooting at a UPS facility in San Francisco, Calif., on Wednesday, AP reports.  

The shooter is among those killed. According to San Francisco Police, he shot himself in the head. 

Police found him armed with an assault pistol. 

Six people were involved in the incident, according to the most recent UPS press release, including the four people dead and two injured currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. 

The shooting is still under investigation by local law enforcement.  

UPDATE 2:25 P.M. EST: 

UPS released the following statement on the shooting incident: 

"UPS confirms there was a shooting incident involving 4 employees within the company’s facility in San Francisco earlier this morning. Local law enforcement are conducting an investigation. We cannot provide information as to the identity of persons involved at this time, pending the police investigation. We understand that there are potentially multiple deaths, although some individuals were transported to the hospital and we are unsure of their status at this time.

"The company is saddened and deeply concerned about affected employees, family members and the community we share.   Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this incident."

UPDATE 1:45 P.M. EST: 

The San Francisco Police Department says that the incident has been contained and that the building is secure. 

There is still no word on the gunman or whether he has been taken into custody.

SF Gate reports that at least two people were killed in the shooting. Multiple victims are being treated at San Francisco General Hospital. Their conditions remain unknown.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

A shooting took place at a UPS facility in San Francisco, Calif., on Wednesday.  

An employee reportedly opened fire at the UPS on 17th Street and Vermont, located in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, less than three miles from downtown San Francisco. 

According to CBS SF Bay Area, several are wounded.

AP reports that four victims have been taken to the hospital but their conditions have not been made known public. 

The San Francisco Medical Examiner has been called to the scene, but there have been no confirmed deaths.

UPS issued a statement following the shooting:

“UPS confirms there was an incident involving employees within the company’s facility in San Francisco earlier this morning,” the statement reads. “Local law enforcement have control of the facility and are conducting an investigation. The company is cooperating with law enforcement. We cannot provide information as to the identity of persons involved at this time, pending the police investigation.”

San Francisco Police says they are conducting a building search as the situation is active and ongoing.

People have been told “to avoid the area or shelter in place” until further notice.

So far the shooting has been referred to as a workplace shooting.
