'United State of Women' Summit Packed With Liberal Lineup

In January, the White House announced it will be hosting the first ever summit on “The United State of Women.” The goal of the summit is to celebrate the progress made in gender equality over Obama’s two terms as president and to see what issues are left to overcome. But almost all of the women who will be representing the summit will be liberals and will be sure to push a liberal agenda.

The discussions at the summit will be based around six main talking points--what the website refers to as pillars--described as either challenges that women face on a daily basis or are ways that women can empower themselves. Some of the topics include “violence against women,” “educational opportunities,” and “leadership and civic engagement.”

The White House released a video on Tuesday to advertise the summit. The video is a montage of famous women who are lending their support to the summit (but will not personally be in attendance). The notable women in the video include famous actresses such as Meryl Streep and Tina Fey and television talk show hosts such as Oprah Winfrey and Jessica Williams. There are also powerful business CEOs, such as Indra Nooyi and Tory Burch, who are the CEOs of PepsiCo and the Tory Burch Foundation, respectively.

There are many differences between the women featured in the video. There video includes women from a variety of different national heritages, a transgender woman, and a deaf woman.

But there is one thing these women have in common: all but a handful of the women supporting the summit are outspoken liberals. The majority of the women who are featured in the video, who are the faces of the summit, have openly supported Obama in the past, have donated money to the Democratic Party, or have supported a liberal lifestyle by acting in television shows or movies that cast conservative values in a negative light.

Kerry Washington, for example, spoke at the Democratic National Convention back in 2013 to show her support for Obama’s reelection. The deaf woman in the video is Leah Katz-Hernandez, who is actually the White House receptionist who started off by volunteering for Obama’s political campaign. Three of the many actresses star in the hit ABC show, “Scandal,” which regularly pushes a Progressive agenda.

It is wonderful that people are working towards making the world safer for women, but the other topics that are being discussed--combating gender based jobs stereotypes, how to create liberal change in the work environment, and how to start your own business--at the summit and the women that are representing them do not send the correct message. Gender equality is ultimately impossible because men and women are different. They both want and can achieve different things. Saying that one gender can do something that the other one can not does not put down the other gender. It is natural and good that there is a difference.

By only having liberal women for its popular face, the summit is saying that the only people that have the interest of women at heart are liberals, which is just not true.
