At Uncommon Sense, the mind-numbingly stupid will find no refuge. The sky is blue. Water is wet. Look both ways when crossing the street. No soup for you!

We don’t prey on people’s legitimate sensitivities, but we hunt for faux outrage - and whatever the heck “micro-aggressions” are supposed to be.

We’re going to Liberalville, and taking them to a place called reality!

This week’s winner really made my blood boil. During a panel discussion on Islam and terrorism last week, a Florida Atlantic University professor actually said that the United States should institute Sharia law.

So, Bassem Alhalabi, come on down! You’re this week’s winner of the “Golden Jackass” award!

Alhalabi, an associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has worked at FAU for the past 20 years. He received his Ph.D from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Alhalabi is clearly qualified to be a professor in his field. However, it’s what he said during the discussion that raised my eyebrows.

Here is a short video of what Alhalabi said at the event:

Awww, he seems like such a sweetheart.

Alhalabi had to have someone else “clarify” his statements, so even he realized he shouldn't have said what he did.

So, this nut wants to cut off the hands of anyone who steals? If a 12-year-old steals a candy bar from a 7/11, should he have his hands cut off, too? Is there a middle ground, or does Sharia law not allow for compromise?

According to Islamweb.net, the ruling for theft in Islam is as follows as stated in the Quran:

“[As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they earned [i.e. committed] as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.” [Quran 5:38]

...“May Allah curse the thief who steals an egg and has his hand cut off, or steals a rope and has his hand cut off.” [Al-Bukhari]

Judging by what the Quran actually says, there really isn’t much room for interpretation.

Call me a pacifist or whatever, but cutting the hands off of someone for stealing an “egg” or a piece of “rope” is slightly medieval.

Look, I am all for religious freedom. Heck, it’s one of the reasons our Founding Fathers came to this great land. But why is it that a lot of people that come to this country to escape their crappy country end up trying to change the U.S. to better resemble said country of crap? If you wanted to keep practicing the way of life that you experienced in your country of origin, then why didn’t you just stay in that country?

But you'll never hear about Alhalabi on network news. You know why? Because then the networks would be cast as bigots like they did and still do with presidential candidates.

By putting his point of view on display, Alhalabi revealed himself as an extremist. He also revealed that Sharia law is an extremist rule of law. Any legal system that punishes the victim of a rape unless there are four or more witnesses is a barbaric one.

If you have even heard of evolution then you would know that men stopped walking on their knuckles or clubbing their women and dragging them back to their mud hut many, many moons ago. I equate Sharia law to reverse evolution. Sharia law transports people back to a time before we had common sense.

Hey, maybe cutting someone’s hands off or persecuting women in every way possible isn’t a good thing? Just maybe?

You would think we would all know that by now. But American states and town governments and media outlets are still allowing people to pursue Sharia law, just to show how “tolerant” they are. It hasn't been implemented anywhere yet, but that's not stopping some Muslims  like Alhalabi from pushing for it.

Actually, it’s kind of funny actually that more residents of the Boca Raton area are not protesting FAU for the continued tolerance of Alhalabi, especially since the South Palm Beach area (which includes Boca Raton and Delray Beach) has the tenth-largest Jewish community in the U.S.

It is time to wake up people.

Alhalabi is an extremist, and I'm not afraid to say that. To me, the new Islamophobia is when people are afraid of offending any extremist Muslim, because they either won’t be seen as tolerant or they fear retaliation.

I'm not afraid, and you shouldn’t be either.

Therefore, Bassem Alhalbi is this week's “Golden Jackass."
