Even though journalists warned that President Trump’s alleged remarks calling African countries “s**thole countries” would cause irreparable harm to our allies, it turns out that Trump’s comments actually won over the Ugandan president.

The BBC reports Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni recently praised Trump for his ability to speak frankly about the situation in Africa. While speaking to the East African Legislative Assembly, Museveni said America “has got one of the best presidents ever.”

“I love Trump because he tells Africans frankly. I don’t know if he was misquoted or whatever, but when he I like him because he speaks frankly,” he continued. “The Africans need to solve their problems. They need to be strong.”

In a tweet, Museveni touched on the same theme, writing, “You can't survive if you are weak. It is the Africans' fault that they are weak. We are 12 times the size of India, but why are we not strong?"

Unlike Museveni, other leaders of African countries have condemned Trump for his reported comments.

Among the critics of Trump’s “s**thole” comments include French president Emmanuel Macron, who recently said Africa is being hindered by “civilizational” problems.
