A couple of would-be shoplifters found themselves in a pickle over the holiday weekend when they tried to rob a local outdoors store last weekend – only to find themselves surrounded by a ring of customers armed with guns.

According to The Herald out of Everett, Washington, the two young men, both in their early 20s, reportedly strolled into the Coastal Farm & Ranch store in Marysville the Saturday before Christmas and waltzed out with four nail guns worth about $400 apiece.

When the pair got into their getaway car, though, they suddenly realized they were surrounded by six armed customers, all with their firearms pointed right at the vehicle.

If stealing expensive equipment weren’t idiotic enough, the thieves then decided there was little chance of actually getting shot, and proceeded to run one of the armed guys over with their car, hitting him and bouncing him off the hood.

That was a mistake.

According to the local report, two of the customers then shot out a couple of the car’s tires. After a brief chase by a store employee, police soon located the disabled car a short distance away, complete with two flat tires and all four nail guns sitting in the seat. The thieves were caught after a short search.

Police did add that they weren’t sure the armed customers firing their weapons was entirely legal, and that all of them had left by the time police got to the store. Even still, it’s a good lesson for anyone who thinks a quick crime will be easy to get away with – especially around an armed citizenry.
