Trump Scraps Obama Rule: No More Auto-Release For Pregnant Illegal Aliens

The Trump administration announced on Thursday they’ve scrapped an Obama-era policy that allowed for the blanket release of pregnant illegal aliens being held in ICE custody.

The old rule mandated that immigration officials release pregnant women being detained for immigration violations unless they met certain narrow criteria (like being a serial killer, for example).

But under the new Trump rule, which reportedly went into effect in December, illegal alien women won’t receive automatic release just because they’re pregnant.

Of course, this doesn't mean ICE will refuse to release women from detention who've got extenuating circumstances, such as a high-risk pregnancy or those who are victims of sex trafficking. The administration did say pregnant women will be considered for release on a case-by-case basis, and that women in their third trimester will likely be freed, the Associated Press reports.

The AP added that “Immigration and Customs Enforcement took 506 pregnant women into custody since the new policy took effect in December and had 35 last week.”

Of course, the ALCU decried the new rule as “cruel.”

"This new policy further exposes the cruelty of Trump's detention and deportation force by endangering the lives of pregnant immigrant women," said Victoria Lopez, ACLU senior staff counsel.

This is the same law group, remember, that openly advocates for the rights of women to kill their own unborn children. And yet when it comes to illegal alien women being detained for immigration violations, they're suddenly very concerned for babies.

Of course, they don’t bother to mention that a really great way to avoid being held by immigration while you’re pregnant is to not be in the U.S. illegal in the first place.
