Trump Says He’s ‘Going to Think About’ Appointing a Special Prosecutor For Clinton

Despite making it a major talking point during his campaign, president-elect Donald Trump said he is still thinking about whether he will appoint a special prosecutor to go after Hillary Clinton, adding that the Clintons are “good people.”

During one of the presidential debates, Trump said if he were to win the election, he would instruct his attorney general to “get a special prosecutor to look into [Clinton’s] situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception.”

However, while appearing on “60 Minutes” Sunday night, Trump was asked by host Lesley Stahl if he’s still going to ask for a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton.

Stahl asked, “Are you going to ask for a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton over her emails? And are you, as you said to her face, going to try to put her in jail?”

“Well, I’m going to tell you what I’m going to do. I’m going to think about it,” Trump responded. “I feel that I want to focus on jobs. I want to focus on health care. I want to focus on the border and immigration and doing a really great immigration bill. We want to have a great immigration bill. And I want to focus on all of these other things we’ve been talking about and get the country straightened away.”

“You called her ‘crooked Hillary,’ said you wanted to get her in jail. Your people in your audiences kept saying, ‘Lock ‘em up.’”

“She did some bad things,” Trump said. “I mean, she did some bad things.”

“I know, but a special prosecutor?” Stahl asked.

“I don’t want to hurt them. I don’t want to hurt. They’re good people. I don’t want to hurt them and I will give you a very good and definitive answer next time we do ’60 Minutes’ together,” Trump responded.
