Trump to Sign Executive Order Requiring Universities to Support Free Speech on Campus

On Saturday, during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, President Donald Trump announced that he will “very soon” be signing an executive order that would make it easier for conservatives (and others) to express their political viewpoints without universities punishing them for doing so.

“Today I am proud to announce that I will be very soon signing an executive order requiring colleges and universities to support free speech if they want federal research grants,” Trump told the CPAC crowd.

“We reject oppressive speech codes, censorship, political correctness and every other attempt by the hard left to stop people from challenging ridiculous and dangerous ideas. These ideas are dangerous,” he said, according to The Hill. “Instead we believe in free speech, including online and including on campus.”

Trump said this right after he stood on stage with Hayden Williams, the student who was assaulted by a liberal maniac, Zachary Greenberg, at UC Berkeley in February. Greenberg was arrested by authorities last week.

“Ladies and gentlemen, he took a hard punch in the face for all of us. Remember that,” Trump said. “And we can never allow that to happen.”

Trump added that it would “be very costly” if higher education institutions refused to allow free speech on their campuses.

“If they want our dollars—and we give it to them by the billions—they’ve got to allow people like Hayden and many other great young people and old people to speak, free speech,” the president said.

When you think about all the conservatives who’ve been assaulted on campuses around the country and how many conservative speakers have had their speeches cancelled because of violent leftist protests, this executive order sounds quite promising.
