President Trump at the White House on Wednesday said he disagrees with Republicans who are “happy” controversial Republican candidate Roy Moore lost the Alabama Senate race.

“I wish we would have gotten the seat,” said Trump. “A lot of Republicans feel differently, they're very happy with the way it turned out.”

"But I would have, as the leader of the party, I would have liked to have had the seat,” he continued. “I want to endorse the people that are running.”

Trump also tweeted on Wednesday that he was "right" to endorse Sen. Luther Strange (R-Ala.) because he didn’t think Moore could win the special election.

“The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election,” he wrote on Twitter. “I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!”

Strange lost to Moore in the Alabama primary.

Trump said that he believes “the deck was stacked” against Moore, who currently faces several sexual misconduct allegations.

He later tweeted that if Tuesday night’s election proved anything, “it proved that we need to put up GREAT Republican candidates to increase the razor thin margins in both the House and Senate.”

Democratic candidate Doug Jones’ victory shrinks Republicans’ advantage in the Senate 51-49.

Now that Jones has won, Democratic leaders are calling for a halt on all negotiations for the GOP tax bill until Jones is seated in the Senate so he can participate in the discussions.
