President Donald Trump tweeted late Monday that his administration will begin removing “millions” of illegal aliens from the United States “as fast as they come in,” hailing it as the latest step in a new agreement with Mexico aimed at stemming the massive influx of Central American migrants into the U.S.

“Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States,” the president tweeted. “They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people long before they get to our Southern Border. Guatemala is getting ready to sign a Safe-Third [Country] Agreement.”

Trump also took a swipe at congressional Democrats’ inaction on the border crisis, calling them “[t]he only ones who won’t do anything.”

“They must vote to get rid of the loopholes, and fix asylum! If so, Border Crisis will end quickly!” Trump added.

As border agents beg for more money from Congress to deal with the unmanageable rise in illegal aliens flooding into the U.S. from Mexico, more than 144,000 illegal aliens were apprehended at the Southwest U.S. border during the month of May alone, setting a 13-year record for the largest monthly total caught by border agents.

The administration had previously threatened to withdraw millions in financial aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador until the three Central American nations took steps to address their part of the migrant crisis. However, Trump's State Department said said Monday it will continue sending the money already appropriated, but will not allow new funding until the illegal immigration flow is dealt with.
