President Trump during a visit to South Korea on Tuesday urged North Korea to “come to the table” and “make a deal” regarding its nuclear weapons program.

“I really believe that it makes sense for North Korea to come to the table and to make a deal that’s good for the people of North Korea and the people of the world,” he said, in a joint press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

“I do see certain movement, yes,” said Trump, suggesting that U.S.-led efforts to put pressure on North Korea are working. “But let’s see what happens.”

Striking a more optimistic tone than in the past, the President said he believes “we are making a lot of progress” on the North Korea nuclear threat.

"Yes, I think we're making a lot of progress,” said Trump. “Yes, we're showing great strength. I think they understand we have unparalleled strength. There has never been strength like it.”

President Trump didn’t offer any specific details as to what progress has been made, as his administration likes “to play our cards a little bit close to the vest.”

He said that the U.S. "stands prepared to defend itself and its allies" if necessary.

"The United States stands prepared to defend itself and its allies using the full range of our unmatched military capabilities if need be," Trump said.
