“You have to stand proudly for the national anthem, or you shouldn’t be playing, you shouldn’t be there, maybe you shouldn’t be in the country,” President Trump told Fox News in reaction to the release of the NFL’s new policy.

On Wednesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that all team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem. Personnel that choose not to stand may stay in the locker room or off the field until after the anthem is performed.

In a Fox News interview taped yesterday, but that first aired this morning, the president expressed his support for the policy.

“You have to stand proudly for the national anthem and the NFL owners have done the right thing if that’s what they’ve done,” Trump said.

According to Goodell’s announcement yesterday, the new NFL policy was agreed upon by all 32 team owners.
