President-elect Donald Trump slammed the media as "dishonest" on Friday for suggesting that he was going back on a campaign promise to make Mexico pay for his border wall.
He said in a tweet that Mexico will pay for the "Great Wall" - though not up front.
"The dishonest media does not report that any money spent on building the Great Wall (for sake of speed), will be paid back by Mexico later!" Trump tweeted.
The President-elect plans to have Mexico pay the U.S. back in the form of reimbursements.
In the meantime, "for the sake of speed," the Trump administration will ask Congress to make money available in its funding bill for the wall's construction.
It remains unclear how the Trump administration plans to compel Mexico to pay, even if it's in a series of reimbursements, as Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has made it clear that “Mexico will not pay for the wall.”
