Donald Trump, who has been widely criticized for not releasing his tax returns, has donated his $100,000 second-quarter salary as president to the U.S. Department of Education. The money will be used specifically to pay for a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) camp.

Federal law mandates the president be paid a yearly salary, making it legally impossible for Trump to simply refuse the check outright. As an alternative, the president vowed back in November he would give his $400,000 presidential salary back to the American people in some way, shape or form. Previously this year, the president donated his first quarter salary totaling $78,33.32 to the National Park Service.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVoss announced the president’s latest donation Wednesday, saying she is very appreciative of Trump’s “generous gift.”

“The president is committed to our nation's students and to reforming education in America so that every child, no matter their ZIP code, has access to a high-quality education,” she said.

Many people may not like President Trump, but this definitely is something to respect him for.
