Trump Calls Oakland Mayor a ‘Disgrace’ for Giving Illegal Immigrants Heads Up on Raids

President Trump on Thursday slammed the Oakland mayor who gave illegal immigrants residing in her community a heads up about raids, calling her warning a “disgrace.”

"What the mayor of Oakland did the other day was a disgrace," Trump told reporters before a Cabinet meeting at the White House.

"Where they had close to 1,000 people ready to be gotten, ready to be taken off the streets," he said. "And the mayor of Oakland went out and she warned them all: 'Scatter.'"

Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Homan last week similarly criticized Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf (D) for sending out the warning about pending raids in the San Francisco Bay area.

He said that what Schaaf did was “no better than a gang lookout yelling ‘police’ when a police cruiser comes in the neighborhood.”

Homan added that ICE has been unable to locate 800 illegal immigrants since Schaaf issued her warning.

Schaaf defended herself in a statement last Tuesday, saying that she sent out the warning “to give all residents time to learn their rights and know their legal options.”

Trump said on Thursday that Schaaf put immigration officials at risk by sending out the warning.

“What she did is incredible and very dangerous from the standpoint of ICE and Border Patrol… You really made law enforcement much more dangerous than it had to be,” he said.

He added that endangering law enforcement is "certainly something that we're looking at with respect to her individually."

"We're looking at that situation very carefully," said the President.

The Justice Department is currently reviewing her actions, according to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
