During his remarks at the California Republican Party Convention on Friday, GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump addressed the tense anti-Trump protests outside of the event that prompted his Secret Service to escort him into the building through a back entryway.

“That was not the easiest entrance I’ve ever made,” he joked. “My wife called. She said, there are helicopters following you. And then we went under a fence and through a fence… Oh, boy. It felt like I was crossing the border actually.”

“I was crossing the border, but I got here,” he said.

Upon arrival at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame, the GOP presidential frontrunner was met with hundreds of protesters.

Trump was supposed to speak promptly at noon, but the sheer volume of the protests delayed his remarks by more than an hour.
