What a novel idea! In order to be a legal immigrant in this country, you have to earn it without previously taking any handouts from the government. Democrats in the 1990s gave their support for this “public charge” rule. But, since it’s President Trump’s administration reinstating it, the left will most likely be outraged at the move. For those playing the home game remember, Orange Man Bad.

The Trump administration is putting a rule in place that would hamper the chances of legal immigrants becoming permanent citizens who have used different forms of welfare in the past.

According to a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Saturday news release:

The Final Rule, published on Aug. 14, 2019 and originally scheduled to go into effect on Oct. 15, 2019, prescribes how the Department of Homeland Security will determine whether an alien is inadmissible, and ineligible to adjust status to that of a lawful permanent resident in the United States because the alien is likely at any time in the future to become a public charge pursuant to section 212(a)(4) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The Final Rule also addresses USCIS’ authority to issue public charge bonds in the context of applications for adjustment of status. Finally, the Final Rule includes a requirement that aliens seeking an extension of nonimmigrant stay or change of nonimmigrant status demonstrate that they have not received public benefits over the designated threshold since obtaining the nonimmigrant status they seek to extend or change.

“The main reason this got done is because we have a president who is determined enough to make self-sufficiency matter again in a meaningful way,” acting Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli said, according to the Washington Times.

And that’s what this boils down to — self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. I never understood people who are all too willing to go on the government dole considering most, if not all, of those programs are designed to keep people in poverty.

No matter what socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-.N.Y.) says, a person can absolutely pull themselves up by their bootstraps and make something out of their life without having to rely on mommy and daddy, aka the government.
