President Trump announced on Sunday that he is nominating former Obama Border Patrol chief Mark Morgan to become the new director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Trump wrote in a tweet that the nomination of Morgan should satisfy “all of those that believe in a strong, fair and sound Immigration Policy” and praised him as “a true believer and American Patriot.”

He wrote in a subsequent tweet that Matt Albence, who served as acting Deputy Director of ICE, will continue to serve as the agency’s Acting Director until Morgan’s confirmation.

Morgan, who served as Border Patrol chief the last six months of the Obama administration but was removed by Trump shortly after he took office, has voiced his support for President Trump and his administration amid the border crisis.

He told Fox News in an interview that he has “broken my silence for one reason: because it’s fact.”

“What the president is saying and what they're trying to do as far as the policy goes, it’s based on reality and fact and I know that because he’s listening to the experts,” said Morgan. “Not political pundits, not talking heads, he is listening to experts. Anyone who says this a manufactured crisis is absolutely misleading the American people.”

Morgan is not the only Obama-era official to come out in support of Trump on immigration.

Former Obama Department of Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson in a recent interview said that America is “truly in a crisis.”
