In a bit of hilarious news, President Donald Trump has reportedly canceled the media’s Christmas party at the White House, marking the administration’s latest move in the ever-escalating battle with the anti-Trump press.

The party, which has been a yearly tradition for decades, was apparently a highlight of the media’s year and included an elaborate feast, a walk-through of the White House’s Christmas decorations, a picture-taking opportunity with the president and first lady, and a chance to hob-knob with administration officials. Media bigwigs, reporters, anchors and correspondents have reportedly flown in for the event just about every year.

The Trumps hosted the event last year but didn’t stay long, and didn’t offer to take pictures with any of the press.

But instead of a lamb chop buffet, it seems the media won’t even get so much as a lump of coal to mark the end of a contentious year between the president and the press both inside and out of the White House briefing room. Trump reportedly canceled the event without so much as an announcement or an explanation, similar to his refusal to attend either of the White House Correspondents’ Dinners so far in his first term.

While the media won’t get their fancy shindig, the White House has already played host to tens of thousands of ordinary guests coming from all over the country to see First Lady Melania Trump’s ornate Christmas displays.
