I don’t hear anyone from the left calling to take weapons out of the hands of criminals who illegally possess them and use them to terrorize their surroundings. Now, while we don’t know for sure if the weapon used to kill a young, female police officer over the weekend was illegally obtained or not, typically criminals in Chicago don’t register their firearms.

A Chicago police officer, 24-year-old Aréanah Preston, was shot and killed in the early hours of Saturday not long after she finished her shift and left the Calumet District station on the city’s south side.

Chicago has a system called “ShotSpotter” in which anyone can call in when they hear or see shots fired. Someone did just that, but the young officer died of multiple gunshot wounds while being treated at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

As of this writing, Chicago police are reportedly talking to four individuals, but no charges have been filed. So as far as we know, Preston was shot dead in cold blood either because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, or she was targeted for being a police officer in a city that has vilified cops for years now.

Preston couldn’t have been an “innocent bystander,” because she was shot multiple times. People don’t get shot “multiple times” very often on accident.

Outgoing Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot commented on Preston’s death and concluded in her typically stupid fashion.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re standing here again today to talk about another tragedy that has befallen one of our bravest citizens,” Lightfoot said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “I had an opportunity to speak with the family of this officer, who as you might imagine is completely shattered. ... No mother wants to wake up to the tragic news that their child is dead. And dead to something as awful and tragic as gunfire.”

What does it matter how Preston died? There’s no good way to violently die. However, Lightfoot couldn’t help but take one more shot at guns. Remember, for leftists, never let a tragedy go to waste.

By all accounts, Preston was a fine, upstanding woman trying to take care of her city. Rest in peace to Officer Preston and condolences to her family and friends during this trying time.
