Top 3 "Myths" About Legal Immigration

Suffolk University economic professor Ben Powell, in conjunction with the Institute for Humane Studies, tried to pull a fast one on YouTube viewers in a recent video entitled " The Top 3 Myths about Immigration."

In the two-and-a-half-minute video, Powell explains how immigrants have been vilified for being a net drag on the economy, stealing jobs from American workers and depressing wages.  Powell says that all of these assumptions are false.

But Powell didn't utter the word "illegal."  Not a single time.  This seems odd since the volatile immigration debate in this country generally focuses on those who have entered the country illegally.

Despite Powell's omission of this important word, he makes the intention of his lesson clear at the end of the video, arguing, "Whatever your position on immigration was before, if one of these three myths was holding you back it should push you more on the margin to wanting more open borders."

Of course when looking at the statistics that Powell cites in terms of illegal immigrants and not the immigrant population as a whole, it is likely that these so-called "myths" are much more grounded in reality.
