A bipartisan group of black pastors signed a letter Tuesday urging Ohio voters to oppose a measure that would enshrine abortion into the state Constitution.
The more than 100 pastors argued that abortion is a “moral issue” and insisted it shouldn’t be something that a state constitution permits.
This came just a few weeks before Ohioans are set to vote on Issue 1 which, if passed, is essentially “more extreme than Roe v. Wade.” The letter indicated that it “will allow for painful, late-term abortions through all nine months of pregnancy — even after an unborn baby can feel pain. It will permit our children to undergo abortions without parents knowing. And it will continue to rob generations of Black women and men of the insurmountable joy of parenthood.”
In the letter, pastors specifically noted how abortion disproportionately impacts the black community.
“As Black faith and community leaders across Ohio who are called to care for God’s people, we urge our fellow Christians, the Black community, and all Ohioans who believe in the inherent value of every person to vote NO on Issue 1 this November,” the open letter includes.
It also noted that this isn't a party line vote. This has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats, but rather with life or death, especially for the black community.
Only 13 percent of Ohio’s population is Black, yet 48 percent of abortions undergone by residents of our state are performed on Black women – a tragic and difficult reality that our community cannot ignore. Even more alarming is the number of Black children – 20 million – who were killed in the womb between 1973 and the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court last June.
Pastors noted that the 20 million black children that were killed as a result of Roe v. Wade could fill the Ohio stadium more than 194 times.

The letter also brought up the racist regime that is run by Planned Parenthood. Years ago, eugenicist Margaret Sanger set up Planned Parenthood locations purposefully in minority neighborhoods, targeting black babies “before they entered the world.”
Pastors argued that allowing Issue 1 to go into effect would continue to enable the profit seeking Planned Parenthood to kill more and more babies.
The letter is signed by pastors all over the state and the total number is higher than 100. Time will tell what happens on election day with this situation, but I'll leave you with one last excerpt from the letter:
Enough is enough. The Black community supports life. We have a rich pro-life history, rooted in our love of family and in our abiding faith and belief that God is the ul=mate author of every life. As Psalm 139:13-14 declares, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
