A state senator in Rhode Island is defending a disturbing video she posted to TikTok earlier this week, in which she "twerked" upside-down in a thong bikini before asking people to vote for her.
Rhode Island State Senator Tiara Mack, a Democrat and a "black, queer woman," posted this video to social media on Monday – and fair warning, it may make you want to gouge out your own eyes with a spoon.

Now, Mack is defending the video and blasting any “conservatives” who may have criticized an elected official jiggling her exposed butt-fat rolls for votes.

“Damn. Twerking upside down really makes the conservative, unhinged internet accounts pop off on a Monday,” she mocked in a post Tuesday.
To which even some liberals responded with disgust.
“I'm not a conservative and I'm disappointed. Where do we draw the line on the behavior of public figures?” one user answered. “I like when WE have a standard of decorum that we want OUR people to rise to. To be UNCOMMON to be admired! This ain't it.”
“[G]irl. I have an Ivy League degree and am a state senator. Hate to break it to you. Their decorum isn’t for us. They can’t respect us in a system designed to oppress us,” Mack answered.

Her point, apparently, being that black people are so oppressed, it doesn’t matter if they take off their clothes and shake their rear ends for a camera to get attention, because acting with at least some semblance of basic dignity is just white people's version of "decorum."
Unfortunately for Mack - and perhaps her campaign - it seems most people on social media disagree.
