Last week, a Texas waiter’s Facebook post went viral after he claimed he wasn’t tipped because of racism. Now, it turns out he staged the whole thing.

Khalil Cavil, a server at Saltgrass Steak House, posted a picture of a $108.73 bill with a note at the top that read, “we don’t tip terrorist.”

When Cavil’s post first went viral, the restaurant came to his defense, but after investigating the controversy, they discovered that he wrote the note himself.

“After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story," Terry Turney, COO of Saltgrass said in a statement to USA TODAY. "The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equally disturbing.”

With the current attention-seeking culture built on social media, I’m not sure how we’ll ever avoid ridiculous stunts like this.
