Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that both the state attorney general and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services are "looking into" the case of 7-year-old James Younger, a Texas boy who is "transitioning" into a girl at the behest of his mother and against the wishes of his father.

"The matter of 7 year old James Younger is being looked into by the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services," Abbott said in a tweet Wednesday evening.

The case has caught national attention in recent months, ultimately sparking the #SaveJamesYounger campaign on social media after a jury in Texas on Monday denied full custody to James' father and effectively gave his mother the go-ahead to begin the boy on puberty blockers and hormone therapy to start his medical "transition" to a female, if she so chooses.

In an 11-to-1 vote, the jury denied Younger Sole Managing Conservatorship over James and his twin brother, Jude, a position he said he was trying to win to keep his ex-wife, Dr. Anne Georgulas, from chemically castrating the boy in order to turn him into a female.

Younger said in an interview earlier this year that his ex-wife dresses the boy as a “drag queen” whenever he video chats with his son, saying, “He has false eyelashes and makeup. His hair has got glitter in it. He’s wearing a dress.” Younger has claimed James never expressed a desire to be a girl until his mother began bullying him into acting like one, saying she would lock him in his room and tell him monsters only eat little boys and would only show the child affection if he was acting like a female.

In a disturbing video released by the boy's father, a clearly confused James, then only three years old, can be seen telling his father that his mother has encouraged him toward being a girl.
