Texas Attoney General Ken Paxton will not be letting San Antonio’s city council off the hook after they blocked Chick-fil-A from being a vendor at the city’s international airport.
Earlier this month, the council refused to allow the fast-food chain to participate in San Antonio International Airport’s new concession contract because of the owner’s religious beliefs, saying the restaurant had a “legacy of anti-LGBTQ” behavior.
Paxton’s investigation will determine whether the faux inclusive city council violated the First Amendment with their decision.
“The Constitution’s protection of religious liberty is somehow even better than Chick-fil-A’s chicken,” Paxton wrote in a letter to the city council. “Unfortunately, I have serious concerns that both are under assault at the San Antonio airport.”
“Ironically, the City’s efforts to be ‘inclusive’ resulted in the exclusion of Chick-fil-A based on its religious beliefs,” the Texas AG wrote in a letter to Elaine Chao, San Antonio’s Secretary of Transportation.
As Chron reports, Paxton has been a continuous defender of religious liberty, and this recent push to fight for Chick-fil-A drew support from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
“Texas Attorney General will investigate San Antonio’s ban on Chick-fil-A at their airport,” Abbott tweeted. “The ban has the stench of religious discrimination against Chick-fil-A.”

I’m sure most of the citizens of San Antonio and those passing through the city’s airport would be glad to see the AG overturn the council’s dumb decision.
