The terrorist attack on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo for publishing cartoons mocking Mohammed appears to be having the opposite effect intended by driving traffic to the publication’s previously undistinguished website.

According to Alexa.com, over the past 30 days, the CharlieHebdo.fr website ranked 334,259, falling by more than 117,000 during that time.

But, today, following the attack that left 12 dead, “Charlie Hebdo” became the most-searched term trending on Google.com. with more than 200,000 searches.

Curiously, following the attack, the publication’s website contains nothing more than the phrase, “I am Charlie” repeated over and over in different languages – including Arabic.

Thousands of marchers rallying in France in support of the victims of the attack adopted the phrase, chanting "Je Suis Charlie" (I am Charlie) in the streets.
