Well, that’s one way to do it. It’ll be interesting to see what happens should this newly introduced legislation pass.

Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) has introduced legislation that would allow the American people to donate towards building a border wall between Mexico and the U.S.

According to Section 2 of the proposed Border Wall Trust Fund Act:

(1) RECEIVE GIFTS.—Notwithstanding section 3113 of title 31, the Secretary of the Treasury may accept for the Government a gift of money on the condition that it be used to plan, design, construct, or maintain a barrier along the international border between the United States and Mexico.

(2) TRUST FUND.—Not later than 60 days after the date of enactment of this section, the Secretary of the Treasury shall—

(A) establish an account, to be known as the ‘Border Wall Trust Fund’, into which money received as gifts under this section shall be deposited; and

(B) create a publicly accessible website to receive such gifts.

Fox News’ Harris Faulkner asked Black a good question while interviewing the congresswoman on Monday.

“What happened to Mexico paying for it?” Faulkner asked.

“I would like for Mexico to pay for that, and I’m not close enough to the administration to see what kind of pressure they’re putting on them,” Black responded.

Something with the magnitude of a complete border wall with another country comes with miles of bureaucratic red tape.

Black also asserted that all she’s trying to do is help the Trump administration’s border wall efforts. She posed that Trump “built his case and hopefully in future funding there will be more funding for the wall. But, why not have multiple sources so we can have the wall done faster?”

Maybe Black is tired of the constant Democratic pushback on the issue of the border wall and decided to take matters into her own hands by attempting to allow the American people to voice their support by donating.
