If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: technology will be the downfall of man.

According to Chicago Police (CPD), a group of people streamed the gang-rape of a 15-year-old girl on Facebook Live on Monday.

Fox News is reporting on a very disturbing aspect of this story:

None of the roughly 40 people who watched the video called police about the attack, investigators said. It’s the second time in months that Chicago police have investigated an apparent attack streamed live on Facebook.

CPD needs to try and identify those 40 people and charge them with being accomplices to the act. There are no plausible reasons for any one of those people to not have contacted authorities.

“Here’s what’s even more disturbing: more than the fact that they did this, there were so many people that saw it and didn’t pick up the phone to dial 911,” CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson said. “That’s just not right and (we’re) working on it and try to bring it to a successful resolution.”

These attacks showing up on Facebook Live are nothing new. Back in January, a mentally disabled man was taunted and beaten up on a live post that spread across the site.

Also in January, two Afghan migrants and a Swedish citizen were arrested after streaming a three-hour rape of a Swedish woman on Facebook Live.

While there aren’t a statistically large number of crimes being streamed Facebook Live, the frequency in which they're occurring has increased with time.

As for the teenage girl in Chicago, she had supposedly already been missing by the time her mother was made aware of the situation. The girl had apparently gone to the store Sunday afternoon and never returned.

According to WGN:

Detectives are now trying to track down the owner of the Facebook page and the others in the video. The teen has disappeared once before but her mother says she was found later that day in a neighborhood park.

When CPD finally does catch whoever streamed such a heinous act, here’s a suggestion: I don’t care how old they are. They key should be thrown away for these monsters. If you need to resort to streaming one of the most serious felonies someone can commit live on Facebook, then you don’t need to be breathing the same air as I do.
