Tebow Hits Homer In Debut With St. Lucie Mets

From NFL quarterback to professional baseball player, outspoken Christian athlete Tim Tebow continues to grab headlines.

Tebow made a splash in his debut yesterday with the high-A mets affiliate St. Lucie, after being promoted from the low-A Columbia Fireflies.

In a doubleheader with Palm beach Tebow went 3-for-5 and hit a two-run homer. He also had two RBIs and a walk.

The home run came off a 92 mph fastball from pitcher Junior Fernandez with a 3-1 count.

“It felt good,” he told reporters after the game. “Honestly, I felt good the last couple of weeks in [former team] Columbia, and I tried to carry it over. Just put the bat on the ball and hit it hard. I'm thankful I could get one out tonight.”

But as big as the home run was for Tebow he was disappointed by his effort in the sixth inning when he grounded out to third.

Tebow is known for putting on a show in his debuts. Keeping up a strong showing over the course of several games has proven more difficult, prior to last night’s game Tebow had hit only three home runs in 214 at bats, and had a batting average of .220.
